Just a girl trying to be stylish and feeling awkward about blogging it.

How do you take your Friday?

I like my casual, with a side of awesome. Ok, since I don't yet actually do anything on Friday, besides maybe run errands, I don't always get fully dressed. Unless I am actually going out in public (walking the dog doesn't count. It doesn't). But, today I had to go do some grocery shopping and such, because I hate to do it on the actual weekend. And I'm seriously glad I went today, because places were relatively busy even early this afternoon. Anyway, this was OOTD. I'm really rather fond of it. My sister makes fun of my "old lady" shirt, but this is the same girl who wears athletic sneakers in public, like with regular outfits. And logo tees. Bleh. So, yeah. Anyway. I kind of like these jeans a lot lately, even if they are now too big, and bootcut rather than my beloved slim leg. (Ignore that I never get my pants hemmed and always end up cuffing them.) I didn't actually wear the blazer, it's still way too hot here, but I thought it would look good with the outfit, and I have to say, I rather liked the effect. Blazers make my feel like the cool kid, for some reason. Haven't figured that one out yet. I've also been waiting to wear these shoes for a couple of weeks, couldn't fit them into any of my outfits to my taste. Or, at least, had shoes I liked better with whatever I was wearing. But, I decided today was the day. I like 'em. I think I'll be wearing them to the Man's homecoming, too. No way I'm doing heels out there for a few hours, plus I want to go on the ship if I can. Heels so wouldn't cut it.

I'll post later. Have a happy Constitution Day!

Homecoming

So, as you know, if you've read, the Husband will be home very soon from deployment, so, of course, I've been putting a lot of thought into what to wear. It's led to the purchase of probably 6+ dresses. It's kind of ludicrous. Fortunately, the most I've paid for any of them was like $20. And most of them were more like $10. The joys of clearance. Up until yesterday-that is, for about 2 days prior- the black and blue dress was going to be The One. But. I was browsing what is possibly my favorite-store-ever yesterday, Target, and found the one I think I'm actually going to wear.

This one. I love it, it's so pretty and comfy. I'll post photos after The Event, showing everything together. But, I have the whole thing planned out. Except that I'm still deciding between the above shirt and my new stand-by, the open green cardi. I'm leaning toward the cardigan. Whichever, it will be open, but belted. I need to wear one, because a. don't like how the really thin straps look on me, and b. more importantly, I'm obviously very fair and I burn very quickly and very badly. And we'll be outside for a few hours. One reason I'm leaning toward the green is that it's going to be hot and the blue shows sweat badly! It's seriously gross.

Anyway, I'll hit you up later.

I'm feeling lucky

Ok, this outfit is from a couple of days ago, I just got super lazy. I'm getting really annoyed with my cruddy point and shoot. Seriously, it's several years old and blows. I'm ready for better camera and photographer other than my tripod and self-timer. Of course, I did find my camcorder yesterday. That at least has a remote. But I didn't photograph today, since I'm a bum.

Anyway, I kinda of was liking this outfit. I love this top. It's got really pretty embroidery on the neck. Next time I wear it, I'll shoot detail. I did wear it with the same open cardi from the day before, I just wasn't wearing it during photos. I will say, I'm seriously ready to have my long hair back. I miss it and I hate short hair. But that's a whole mess.

Casual Friday...err...Monday....Fronday

Awkward....

Happy Monday! I hope you had a great weekend! Did you do anything good? I went to my parents' a few hours away, for my Dad's birthday. It was a great weekend, the (almost) whole family was there. My husband excluded, of course. But it was great. I even got to see my sister Friday and yesterday, which rarely happens, as she works weekends. She's one of my very best friends, so it's always a pleasure to spend time with her. Until we start fighting, but that doesn't happen much, anymore. Probably due, in large part, to that we don't live together. Or that we grew up. Either way.
Ignore the stuff on the sides, apparently I have to fight with editing my photos.

Ok, so my intention was to start doing Casual Fridays, well, Friday. But, as above stated, I was OOT, and didn't blog. But Have this whole idea about doing CF outfits, since a lot of people have them. I thought it would be kind of fun. So, today's outfit is qualifying as my Casual Fronday (that would be Friday on Monday, of course) outfit. However, if I was teaching, the jeans would be changed out for ones that didn't have wholes in them. I'd either still do a boyfriend still (that fit! This pair does NOT!) or a slim fit, as that's my go-to and probable favorite. I'm also not really feeling this necklace with this outfit, but it was what I had at the time. I apologize for the cruddy photos. As you know, the Man is gone, and he has the nicer camera. So, when he's home, hopefully A. I'll be using that camera, and B. maybe he'll be taking them. Self portraits are really awkward, I think. But, I'm kind of that way, anyway, so maybe it's just me.
Details of the blouse. It's so pretty.
What's really cool, is I got this open cardigan for like $7 at F21 the other day. Regular price. Sure, it's not as good of quality as some of the others I own, but it's ok. It's light, so great for hot days, like today, when I still want to wear one. And I love the color. Plus, it has POCKETS! I love pockets. The shoes I was wearing are pretty cute, too, but I forgot to lower my tripod so they could be photographed. Oh well, I'll try to remember tomorrow.

The missing hat.

Btw, I did go back and I got my hat. And then I stopped at TJMaxx and bought a couple pairs of flats. /blush.

Style v. Fashion

While this blog is entitled Teach Me Fashion, I think style might be more appropriate. After reading an inspirational entry from Kendi, I felt the need to bring this up. Fashion, to me, is more about trends and cutting edge, while style, though it comes in many forms, is a bit more personal, and classic. Now, I'm having a bit of a difficult time expressing my thoughts exactly on it. I don't mean to downplay fashion at all, I love it, I think it's very cool, but it's something that I myself am less about. I don't really have the guts or personality to pull off fashion, in my definition. Someone can be both fashionable and stylish, but one doesn't have to be fashionable to be stylish. The way I see it, I would consider the Glamourai fashionable, and the aforementioned Kendi, as well as Jen and Jessica, among many, many others stylish. I don't think any of them are wrong, not at all; I love reading all of their blogs. They're just different.

For me, I don't know that I can really define my style. Maybe this blog will help me work that out, but then, I don't think it's necessary to be defined. I love what I love, and that's what I wear.

This brings me to the second topic I want to discuss. Making a fashion style blog is kind of an awkward thing. At least for me. I kind of feel like I'm saying "hey, look how awesome I am. I dress so much better than everyone else, read my blog." Or whatever. It's kind of weird. But that's not really how I want to come across, because that's not how I mean it at all. In reality, I started this blog after trying to find something similar, without much success. Plus, I have a bad habit of wearing almost the same thing time and again. I feel like this will make me more accountable to changing up my wardrobe, even if no one ever reads this. I'd really like to have readers, but there are a lot of blogs out there, and a lot that are way better than mine. So please, if you are reading this, don't take it as a vanity thing. It's not meant that way. And if you are reading, I really hope you enjoy it. And please keep reading! The whole thing is kind of fun to do, especially since I do have the time to do it.

And, by the way, I do think I'm awesome. Just sayin'.

Grrrr.

That's all I have to say. Ok, so, no it's not. I went shopping today (and got a good haul for $70! I'll post photos later, after I've had words with my camera.) and got bought, among other things, a fedora, and they didn't put it in my bag! So now I have to go back out there tomorrow and try to get them to give it to me. /sigh. I really don't want to, but I paid for it. And I tried to call them about it a little while ago, but of course, it's impossible to reach anyone. That's so annoying! I can't believe I didn't even realize it until a little while ago, hours later. Ugh.

Do you have a laughable fear? And...photos!

Without further ado...OOTD! The first one is to show the detailing on my belt, which I love. The second, you, unfortunately, can see the awkward fluttery sleeve-ish things in the blouse. I like the detail on the neckline; I don't like the flutters. They were really hidden throughout the day by my cardigan. Also unfortunately, you can't see my shoes, but I was wearing black flats with antiqued-gold chain detailing on the toes.

This is one of those skirts I'd love to hem up, but for the sake of being able to wear it for when I'm observing classes, I'll leave it the length it is. It's ok that way, I just wish it could be an inch or two shorter. Oh well. I do, however, seriously need to take it in. It's about a size too big, and makes me look bigger than I am. I need no help in that department, thank you very much! And, I need to fix the zipper. Yes, I wore this today knowing that the zipper was broken. I went to fix it last night, but all of my sewing stuff is buried way in the back of my storage closet under Christmas decorations and everything else, so, that didn't happen. /blush, I remedied it with safety pins. Don't judge me. You couldn't see them, and my cardigan covered the side where it was, anyway. I really love this skirt and wanted to wear it. I think, though, if I wear this outfit again, I will have the cardigan under the belt. I just chose not to wear it that way today. But it's really annoying over everything, it moves around too much, Like, flapping, I mean. It gets in my way.

Other than that, do you have a laughable fear? I'm not going to say irrational, because maybe to that person, it isn't irrational. But something that you're afraid of that maybe other people would laugh at. Mine is grasshoppers. I hate coming across them, they freak me out. I mean, I hate all bugs, but grasshoppers just kill me. I got bitten by one when I was a kid and apparently have never gotten over it, I guess. Eh. But I can't deal with them to this day.

And, yeah, I have seriously white legs, I know. My parents make fun of them every time they see them.

Lay all your love on me

Ok, I'd kind of intended to post my OOTD, but I changed before I remembered, and I'm sick and didn't feel like changing again. It wasn't that exciting, anyway. I'm still needing to expand my own accessories collection. It was ok, though. I did really the top I was wearing. But, anyway, another Polyvore it is!

I love the cool floral with the shots of red. This would translate to a really cute outfit for a date with my husband, too. I'm in love with everything in it. It's so sweet and pretty. It would look really cute with a pair of tights, too, for chillier weather.

So what are you looking forward to right now? For me, I'm looking forward to seeing my husband! He's been deployed since February, and will be home very soon; I can't wait! I hope you have something good to which you are looking forward! (Yep, totally did the proper English thing there. Here, not so much.)

How many babies are being born today?

Happy Monday! Or, you know, Labor Day. Whichever you prefer, I suppose. For many of us, I'd imagine this means no work/school/etc; that's always nice. I hope you had a great weekend. Did you do anything fun? I promise I will start posting some of my own actual OOTDs, hopefully this week. I just haven't really gotten really dressed over the weekend, so I've not had anything to post. Cutoffs and a t-shirt are not very exciting. But I won't have many excuses this week, since I'll have school, and therefore get actual-dressed.

In the meantime, here's another Polyvore outfit. I'm doing more of the under-$50, since that's much closer to my own budget. I'm in love with this dress, in any case. I really want it. Seeing ass I can't try it on, I'm not sure how long it would actually be, but I'd imagine on me, at least, I could wear it with no qualms as to length. But I'm 5'3", so, someone taller would probably need one a bit longer.

I did two accessory options after thinking How I'd wear it in both warm and cooler weather. The grey bag could translate to either option, but I'd reserve the caramel one for being worn with similarly colored shoes. Now, I totally agree that the old rule of matching your bag and shoes and belt and underwear eyeshadow, or whatever, is long dead, but I like the idea of having multiple flashes of similar colors, sometimes. I think this would be one of those instances. You could also change out for a pair of gold-ish flats, and go with the caramel bag. I also like doing a brogue, but they're not for everyone. You could even do a pair of black tights, and some black flats. I just like grey. I'm a big fan of black, though, too.

In reference to the title...I do wonder how many babies are being born today, being Labor Day and all. I know, terrible. But seriously. I know a lot of people with birthdays close to now.

Make like a tree

Ok, no, don't leave! If you're here, thank you, I appreciate it so much! I hope you're enjoying.

So, for this one, each item is under $50. Obviously, much more attainable than the last. Of course, you could still replicate it for less, if you're a good shopper. I love places like Marshall's, TJMaxx, Ross, and Target, I hit up thrift stores reasonably often. Even places like Forever 21, though oft-criticized, are great for picking up up cute pieces for cheap. And their jewelry is great, and very often under $10. I have several pieces from there, and I love them.

I would probably wear this outfit with the top tucked in, and the cardigan is great if you're chilly, of course. Or you just like to wear one. I'd probably wear it open. And you could definitely go with a bit of a heel on this one, a nice chunky low-to-mid height.

Hope you're having a great weekend!

Grey and Wine

Ok, so, this is not really a reasonably priced outfit. Like at all. But, it is really cute. And it could be easily replicated for my own budget.

It's something that would work well for a cool fall day that most everybody will be experiencing soon. I still have awhile, considering I'm in FL, and it's still going to be HOT for probably another couple of months, easily. But, it could also be worn in a cool room. I don't know about the rest of anyone, but in my experience, a lot of schools are often kept rather chilly. To encourage wakefulness, I think.

Flats are a must for anyone who's on their feet most of the day. Or at least reasonable heels. Teaching is not the profession for 4+ inch heels. Not going to happen. Fortunately, flats have come a long way. We're no longer relegated to the world of ugly sneakers and orthopedic-type shoes.

I love the play of the colors on one another. And I love grey with a passion. It's one of, if not THE most prevalent color in my wardrobe. And the wine/burgundy. And the little hint of green. And for this, I'd go with a delicate little necklace.

Stay tuned for more! Be fabulous!

Welcome!

Welcome to Teach Me Fashion! I'm not a teacher (yet!), but I'm working toward becoming one. I'm also not necessarily the most stylish person in the world, but I think I can hold my own. My intention for this blog is to post about how to be stylish and still work appropriate, as a teacher or student teacher. Teaching has an unfortunate rap as an unfashionable, often dowdy, profession. I'd like to show that it isn't! Or, at least doesn't have to be. So, thanks for reading, and I'll try to update often!

Love,
Heather
